COPD Audit Case Study – Lynne Beattie, Brunton Park Surgery, Newcastle upon Tyne

COPD is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is estimated that there are over one million people who have COPD in the UK, with another two million who remain, as yet undiagnosed. We must act now to improve patient care and empower our patients, enabling them to manage their conditions more effectively and subsequently to slow the decline in their condition.

The aim of this audit was to examine our surgery’s approach to the use of self-management plans (SMPs) for our patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
