North East Dementia Innovation Hub: RCGP Dementia Roadmap and Sound Doctor Dementia Films

The number of people with dementia is predicted to double in the next 30 years. Early intervention and timely information and support can enable people with dementia to live independently for as long as possible.

Newcastle University’s North East Dementia Innovation Hub supports and stimulates the delivery of world-class interventions and support for people with dementia and their families. To help drive this programme of work, the hub hosts the ‘North East Dementia Alliance’ – a group of organisations from the health, social care, voluntary and business sectors that work with people with dementia and their families.

This project supported the development of a programme of knowledge transfer, including the creation of resources such as:

  • Dementia Roadmaps: a web-based application, developed by the RCGP, which provides information about the dementia journey, alongside local information about services, support groups and care pathways.
  • Dementia films: a series of short information films about dementia giving practical advice on how to cope and get the most out of life.
  • Web-based information resource collating the insights, experience and evidence from people with dementia and their carers, together with researchers, practitioners and businesses.
