The Bright Ideas in Health Awards held in May 2015 were the most successful yet, with over 450 healthcare professionals gathered to recognise the innovative ideas being developed by NHS staff and healthcare SMEs in the North East and North Cumbria. The following video clips introduce each of the finalists by category of awards. The winners of the Bright Ideas Awards are detailed in the news item and press release.

Bright Ideas Awards Montage

Service Improvement Category

This category is to showcase improvements in NHS Foundation Trusts including (but not limited to) pathway redesign, a book, a DVD, a training course, redesign of a service, a public health campaign, a new device or incorporation of a new technology into a service, and cost-saving programmes associated with adoption of innovation.

Innovative Technology or Device Category

This category relates to an idea for, or the development of, a new medical device, a new piece of equipment, or a diagnostic by a member of staff within the NHS staff either working independently, as part of a team with other NHS staff members, in collaboration with a company or in collaboration with a University.

SME Innovation in Healthcare Category, sponsored by Onyx Health

Regional companies were invited to showcase the development of an innovative technology, design or process that has produced a major improvement to either business performance, end user benefit or patient care.

CCG Innovation within Primary Care Category

Innovations which relate to improvements in primary care were sought in this category, including pathway redesign, a book, a DVD, a training course, redesign of a service, a public health campaign, a new device or incorporation of a new technology into a service.

Patient and Public Involvement Category – Making Research Better, sponsored by CRN: North East and North Cumbria and AHSN NENC

This category invited entries from Researchers, Research staff including Research Nurses and members of the team, Clinicians and PhD and Masters Students about how Patient and Public Involvement has positively influenced their studies/evaluations.
