Introducing the Innovation Pathway

Written by Nicola Wesley on 30th April 2015

SMEs represent 99% of all private sector organisations in the UK and their success is therefore crucial to the economic prosperity of a region. To support this economic growth, the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC), in collaboration with its partner organisations, has created ‘The Innovation Pathway’ to provide a range of services to help NHS organisations and SMEs to identify, develop, protect and commercialise innovative ideas.

The Innovation Pathway aims to help organisations who struggle to realise the value of their ideas, with the development, protection and commercialisation of innovation. Organisations can also greatly benefit from the opportunity to present their new product and/or service improvement innovations directly to the NHS market, which further supports their dissemination and adoption.

The AHSN NENC works closely with partners, including NHS Innovations North, to deliver bespoke services covering the entire lifecycle of innovation, from conception to early stage protection of any associated intellectual property, through to the facilitation of clinical trials with industry, market research, health informatics, assistance with diagnostic evaluation and the subsequent adoption and dissemination of the innovation.

We hope that ‘The Innovation Pathway’ will become the recognised service for the delivery of innovation commercialisation assistance in the North East and North Cumbria healthcare arena, and beyond. The associated activity will create job opportunities, product sales and royalties, as well as improving the health and wellbeing of the population through the access to new and improved products and services.
